HIATUS MISSION - APRIL 2017
In the northern Skaultan highlands, the people live intensely. The countryside is frequently torn up by skirmishing tribes, and every man, woman and child is ready and willing to defend themselves and their clanspeople. Their brutality goes hand-in-hand with both tremendous warmth and fierce pride, as well as unending loyalty to those who earn their trust. King Gaius I, having established himself as the great unifier of the lowlands, is moving into the northern territories with the intent to conquer all in his path. ALASTAIR's Team Noor has boots on the ground trying to band together the Skaultish tribes, but negotiations are going poorly and the Skaults are unprepared for a well-organized, well-equipped enemy. Should they fall, the course of history will change; ALASTAIR has therefore dispatched a relief team of several martial artists, soldiers and strategists to help train the Skaults and hone their natural aggression, of which Kung Jin is a part. Now with the conqueror on the way, Team Noor can focus on diplomacy while the new arrivals can do their best to outfit their charges against impending doom.

Kung Jin spends roughly a week and a half training the Skaultish tribes with the rest of the relief team before they realize that a traditional approach won’t work. In stark contrast to the diplomatic Team Noor, the number of dissenting voices on the relief team can hardly come to an agreement on how to train the Skaults collectively-- and although Noor and the relief team’s strategists successfully win a few tribes over to the cause, the Skaults still seem to be marching towards defeat.
So, OF COURSE, Jin manages to accidentally violate a sensitive standard of Skaultish hospitality, inciting a heated argument amongst the faction he’s assigned to train. Using the example of members of three different Skaultish tribes coming together to take /him/ down, he spins this into a rhetorical angle that Noor and the relief team’s strategists are able to unify the remaining tribespeople with. (After he apologizes and... is healed by the local mages, of course.)
As King Gaius’ forces are still more than a match for the Skaults, Noor and company also develop numerous traps for his forces: it involves at least one swamp poisoned by reverse-magic-engineering Jin’s arrows, at least one apple-peach tree set on fire (Jin’s fault, but it was fine), a couple loose elephant-tigers, much creative fortress-scaling, and other assorted ridiculousness. Overall, Jin, ALASTAIR, and the Skaultish tribes are, inexplicably, SUCCESSFUL at driving King Gaius I’s forces away and creating a unified Skaultish front... for the time being, at least.

Jin's efforts haven't been in vain--with a new united front, and better-equipped to take on Gaius' forces, the Skaults push back against invasion and over the next century manage to actually strip territory from their southern neighbours until most of the country is under Skault dominion. Nearly twelve decades later, the Skault's warrior nature allows them to fight back more effectively against the invading Hvaltr from across the sea, preventing societal collapse across the continent, preventing the Hvaltr from using the country as a base from which to access and pillage the mainland. Mothers across the country remind their children to behave, or Cwn Geàn will gobble them up!
